Topic: Chinese corner
After seeing the people who are interested in having a Chinese corner (Mr. P, Lolly, Navman and myself), I decided I would open a thread, so anyone else interested in setting up a WOX Chinese corner could show interest.

After all, not many people would think of signing up for a Chinese corner in a thread titled "English corner tonight"!!!

So, anyone else interested, can you leave a message here, and maybe the times and dates that are best for you?

If we have enough foreign people willing to make fools of themselves, and enough lovely Chinese people willing to listen to our horrible grammer and even worse tones, and help us improve them, maybe we can put something together!

For me, afternoons are best, and otherwise Friday evening would also be ok, or Sunday afternoon.

I just spent 15 minutes learning how and trying to say Star Fruit, yang tao! (foreign fruit) ha ha. Weekends are always best for me. This weekend though I will be in HK.

My weekend starts Friday at 5:00pm and ends Monday morning at 8:00am so any day and time in between is good for me.

The best Chinese corner I ever attended was hiking to a mountain top and spending the day playing cards, drinking tea and eating assorted nuts, fruits and BBQ'd fishes.

Great, looks like Sunday afternoons are becoming a runner!!
If anyone else wants to join, let me know!
When we have a few more people, I'll organise a place that we can meet up!

Hey Button! Your doing exactly what I was thinking yesterday but I will be in Xiamen next week so it's just excellent that you stepped out. Think I'm up for Sunday afternoon too.
Oh and like Phoenix mentioned the best way to improve a language is by creating the environment. So I guess we could organize some activities to learn Chinese together!

Hi button. Thanks for creating this thread. I'm keen to join the Chinese corner.

I hope a few Chinese here would come too and help us practise Chinese.

Having activities is a great idea, especially if its some sort of a game. Maybe card games or memory games where u have to memorize words.

Even better, I think sherraids would be good (I can't spell - the game where one person acts out a word or a phrase, then the others have to guess it). Can learn new vocabs.

Or the drawing game, then u have to guess what that person is drawing. We can have teams competing or Sth.

Games force u to compete and talk and think.

I'll be getting back to xiamen sat midnight (Sunday early morning). Not if i can make it this Sunday but definitely up for following Sundays.

Charades and other games are great, but it would be hard to do when hiking I think!!!
Would people be interested in a mixture then, say one week in a cafe or something, and we can talk and play games, and the next week go out and do something as a group?

I'm also not free this weekend (bit short notice!), so maybe we could start on Sunday 18th? @Mr.P and @Navman - will you both be back then?
(Crap, I'll have the hangover from hell after Paddy's but I should make it by the afternoon!!!!)

I'm fine with either activity. Sunday 18th is good. I'll put it in my calendar.

maybe we should have an irish corner on Saturday, then a chinese corner on Sunday. haha

Irish corner sounds good!!! Not sure that much language would be practised, "more beer" is about as far as we would get I should imagine!!!

Would suggest for the first one that we have it in a cafe and play games or something. That way we can get to know each other a bit better, think that might be a bit of an icebreaker. Does everyone agree?

Then of course, we can discuss at that corner what we'll do the following week!!! Lots of lovely vocab to be practised!

Anyone have any preference where we go?
I suggest Cafe Luwak, near XiaDa.
It gives a discount to WOX card holders, and is really pretty!

Wow that sounds like a plan! I think we could do that one week in a cafe and one week go hiking or something.I should be available on 18th.
Luwak cafe, the one in the area where there's many cafes near xiada?
