A set of photos, which show the luxury interior decoration of the new library at the Xiang’an Campus of Xiamen University, has recently gone viral on the internet, sparking a heated discussion among netizens.

Some netizens said the glorious decoration of the library reminds them of a resplendent and magnificent Western-style palace rather than a university library, and some said the library is "Gaodashang," an acronym for "gaoduan (high end), daqi (classy), shangdangci (high grade)," which is used to describe something high-end and classy.

The school confirmed on its official Sina Weibo page that the new library at its Xiang’an Campus will be put into use starting during its 93rd anniversary in April this year.

The nine-storey Jiageng-style building, which boasts a total floor area of 73,000 square meters, will be the largest single-building library among all colleges and universities in China. The Jiageng-style building is a unique architecture style, which features a combination of Western building style and a Chinese red roof, originated by Chen Jiageng (also known as Tan Kah-Kee), the founder of the school.

The library will be capable of offering more than 3,000 seats and storing more than 2.5 million books. It’s also equipped with two lecture halls, which can seat 600 people and 300 people, respectively.
