Xiamen, in Fujian province, and Hong Kong signed two cooperation programs in the 2014 International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair, which was held in Hong Kong from Dec 4 to 6.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) plans to set up two branches of the Hong Kong Design Gallery in Xiamen, which will make Xiamen the fifth city in the Chinese mainland to display original Hong Kong design commodities, after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao.
HKTDC will send design professionals to give lessons in Xiamen’s Red Dot College and help Xiamen’s design innovation.
Hong Kong Design Gallery was established by HKTDC in 1990 in the busiest area of Hong Kong‘s Convention and Exhibition Centre. It provides free booths for local designers and manufacturers and attracts more than 20,000 buyers every month.
Germany’s Red Dot Award, which is regarded as the Oscar in industrial design, has held a “Xiamen International Design Business Week - Red Dot” in Xiamen for three straight years and has set up an operations base here.
