You never feel bored shopping at Zhongshan Road. It has now been closed to motorists. Zhongshan Road is one of the most prosperous traditional and comprehensive commercial areas in Xiamen. With a very long history, the architecture along the road is a combined style of East and West.. click photo to enlarge...

The pulse of Xiamen pumps non-stop along this main street—the busiest in the city. A kaleidoscope of architectural styles lines both sides, exhibiting German, British and classic Chinese influences. Restaurants, ranging from fine dining to western fast food, are seemingly endless, as are stores selling souvenirs, clothing, music, books and local art.

The road spills into the harbor area that provides ferry access to Gulangyu Island. There is no better location in Xiamen for getting a true feel of the city.

The large shopping centres, together with a variety of small retail stores here, are characterized by an abundance of items, attracting many tourists.

Shoppers can find the latest fashions and accessories for men, women and kids. Electronics abound including CD players, DVDs, televisions, and all of the most up to date computer equipment. There is also a grocery store laden with local produce. Be forewarned that parking can be a king-hassle on Zhongshan Road; public transportation is recommended.

The Buses Nos.2, 3, 4, 10, 12, 23, 25, 27, and 30 pass the road, making it not only easy to get to but also so crowded that many stores are open from nine o'clock in the morning until very late at night. North and South Siming Road and Lady Street nearby are also good places for shopping.
