Rumors of inedible fishes sold in Xiamen untrue.
Recently, a rumor saying that sea-caught fish sold in China's coastal cities contains excessive level of heavy metals went viral among CNY shoppers. Many of them withheld purchases from the sea food because of this.
Heavy metal tests of the aquatic products in Xiamen show they were all safe to be eaten, said the Xiamen Oceans & Fisheries Bureau on 18th January.

The authority has random tested a total of 20 kinds of aquatic products in the market. The tested items include inorganic arsenic, methylmercury, lead, cadmium and copper.

The methylmercury level is = 0.5mg/kg for all fish, excluding carnivorous fish and = 1.0mg/kg for carnivorous fish such as shark, tuna, and swordfish.

The authority said the test results are ‘satisfactory’, and many of them are more than 20 times lower than the standard value.
