After nearly 3 years, Taiwan's most popular rock band MAYDAY is finally here in Xiamen again, with a grand concert at the Xiamen Sports Center on 13th July, 2013.
A favorite of Taiwan's nascent rock scene in the mid to late-1990s, the five-member group Mayday was catapulted to fame following their Golden Melody nomination for Best Band in 2000. In August of 2003, Mayday broke a Taiwan concert attendance record long held by Michael Jackson, surpassing the gloved-one's 40,000-ticket benchmark.
From L to R: Ashin (vocalist), Guan You (drum), Masa (bass), Monster (guitar) and Stone (guitar)
Mayday's songs are written mostly in Mandarin with some Taiwanese Hokkien tracks by Ashin, who speaks fluent Hokkien. The band greatly admires The Beatles and is trying its best to become the "Beatles of the Chinese World”. The eighth track of their fifth album has a track called John Lennon.
Dubbed as “King of Concerts”, tickets for the band’s concerts are always hot-sellers. The band has staged successful concerts overseas in places including Singapore, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Japan and Malaysia. In 2013, they re-launched the Nowhere World Tour on mainland China with their first stop in Hangzhou on 9th March.
