China Philharmonic Orchestra to give new year concert in Xiamen

The China Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a 2010 China New Year Concert on the night of 31st December, 2009 at the Xiamen International Conference Centre Concert Hall.

 

Renowned musicians and the Inner Mongolia Five Colors Hulunbeier Youth Choir will also give performances at the new year concert.

 

The 2010 China New Year Concert will also be broadcast live on CCTV Channel 1, and CCTV Channel Music.

Xiamen International Conference Centre Concert Hall

 

The Xiamen International Conference Centre Concert Hall was put into use this July. Equipped with the world’s most advanced stage, sound and lighting equipment, the concert hall meets the requirements of holding concerts for a large-scale symphony orchestra and choir's.

 

China Philharmonic Orchestra

 

The China Philharmonic Orchestra was established in Beijing on 25th May 2000, based on the previous "China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra".

 

Its inaugural concert was held in December 2000 and conducted by artistic director Long Yu. Their first season included the world premier by Julian Lolyd Webber of Concerto for Cello and Orchestra by Philip Glass and the symphonic Beijing opera Women Generals of the Yangs by Du Mingxin, their first commissioned symphonic work.

 

In 2009, the China Philharmonic Orchestra was selected by Gramophone, which is widely regarded as the best classical music magazine in the world, as one of "the world's 10 most inspiring orchestras" along with the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.
