A Thanksgiving charity party was held at the Straits International Community last Saturday afternoon and was attended by over 30 expats who live in the community.
The party was held by the Straits International Community, to make donation to the Xiamen CP Sapling, a NGO which is devoted to helping children with cerebral palsy.
Expats from different parts of the world celebrated Thanksgiving together and enjoyed a free buffet meal at the café of the Palm Beach club in the community. The meal, which was prepared by Napoli Pizza Italian Restaurant, consisted of bread topped with tuna salad, cantaloupe wrapped in bacon, vegetable salad, tiramisu and of course roast turkey, which is an indispensable part of the Thanksgiving meal. There was a merry vibe in the air and delectable wines were circulating throughout the afternoon.
Katie Blakeley from Xiamen CP Sapling made a speech to the audience
During the party, Katie Blakeley, an American girl working as a volunteer for CP Sapling, made a speech to the audience during which she introduced the NGO and the situation of cerebral palsy children in China. The speech resonated strongly with people at the party and she greatly appreciated the generosity of the donations they made to CP Sapling.
The Xiamen Straits International Community is a high-end residential community which is popular among local expats. It occasionally holds free parties for residents to meet up with other expats from the community.
