The Nice Carnival is one of the world's major carnival events. It is held annually in February in Nice, France on the French Riviera. Every year, the carnival features a special theme, and every year the event includes a colorful parade of floats, figurines, and a “flower battle."
On floats decorated with stunning floral compositions, extravagantly dressed characters shower lilies, mimosas, and gerberas on the audience in what they call the “flower battle." It highlights the diversity of the region's flora: carnations, gerberas, daisies, gladioli, roses, mimosa and many other varieties make an appearance during the parade.

Xiamen has secured the rights to hold the Nice Carnival this year as part of a Xiamen (Nice) Tourism Promotion held in Nice this February. During the “China-EU Tourism Year 2018," “flower battles” and carnival parades will be exported to China; the events will match the carnival theme chosen for that year by the Nice carnival organizers.
"China-EU Tourism Year 2018" was declared by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker in July 2016. The initiative aims to attract more Chinese tourists to EU member countries.
The first trial run of the carnival, which will feature a small selection of floats, will take place at Citizens’ Square in Jimei New Town from April 29th to May 1st. The carnival was named “the King of Energy” this year as energy is more important than ever, especially with the implementation of resolutions made at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (or COP 21) in Paris. The theme puts focus on interpersonal and technological energy, and economic and ecological energy.
