Dragon Boat Festival

The three-day holiday goes from May 28th to 30th this year.

China’s Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Jie, is just around the corner. Also called Double Fifth Festival, the festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, which this year falls on May 30th.

It is one of the oldest festivals not only in China but also throughout the world, with a history of more than 2,000 years.

High temperature allowance

According to a new "High Temperature Allowance Rule" issued by the Xiamen Government, enterprises and employers are required to give a "high temperature allowance" to employees in the warmer months of the year from May to September, to compensate for working in hotter conditions. The amount of the stipend is set at RMB 200 per employee per month.

New security system installed at Xiamen Airport

From May 10th to October 10th, all passengers and their luggage will be inspected before entering terminal buildings at the airport, according to authorities. Passengers are advised to arrive earlier to allow sufficient time for passport control and security procedures.

Opening of Foreign Cultural Relics Museum on Gulangyu

A total of 219 foreign cultural relics will be on display in the new museum on Gulangyu Island. The museum is scheduled to open in mid-May.
Opening of new artificial beach on Huandao Road

Stretching from Guanyinshan/观音山 to the Ni Jin Community/泥金社, the 1.5-kilometer artificial beach will open to the public from May 30th this year.
Fishing Ban

A fishing ban will last from May 1st to August 16th this year. This year's ban is 15 days longer than last year's.
Mother’s Day

Mother's Day falls on May 14th this year. The holiday is held annually on the second Sunday of May.
