French research vessel to call at Xiamen & work with Tan Kah Kee

"Tara," a legendary French research schooner, will call at Xiamen Dongdu International Cruise Terminal from April 2nd to 10th, 2018.

The schooner will work together with "Tan Kah Kee", a research vessel owned by Xiamen University, on a joint maritime environmental protection promotional event. During the event, the two research vessels will be open to the public for tours, and science popularization exhibitions and public lectures will be held.

Tara is scheduled to call at Sanya, Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Shanghai on this first-ever China tour.

French Research Schooner "Tara"

Built in 1989 for extreme conditions, Tara has become a legendary boat used for high-level scientific research missions. The schooner began scientific research on the sea in 2003. It has so far completed 11 missions and called at more than 60 countries.

The vessel is used to help study and understand the impacts of climate change and ecological crises in the ocean. Over its nearly decade-and-a-half of scientific service, the vessel has facilitated a range of concrete scientific results.

Scientific Research Vessel "Tan Kah Kee"

The vessel is the first of its kind in China with complete intellectual property rights owned by Xiamen University. It is the world's first research vessel installed with an ultra-clean aqueous sampling system as well as high-performance acoustic equipment, including multi-beam devices on its flippers, making it possible to see very clearly the environment and ecology under the sea.

The vessel was launched in May 2016.
