A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands, it's consist of filing, shaping of the free edge, cuticle treatments, massage of the hand and the application of polish.
Nicely manicured fingers will always look attractive. Manicured fingers will not only look stylish, but they also reflect your sense of personal hygiene.
Since the ancient times people were very careful when it came to their nails and they took care of beauty of their hands and nails. It is well known that women of ancient Egypt used alkanna and other natural ingredients to take care of their nails and fingers.
Manicures began 5,000 years ago in India. At that time, women used henna instead of nail polish for their manicures. The practice quickly spread to other parts of the world.
4,000 years ago, the people of southern Babylonia turned to solid gold tools to achieve gorgeous nails, which created the whole process of the manicure.
Originating in China in 3,000 BC, nail color indicated one's social status, as well as the length of a person's nails. The Dowager Empress of China always kept her fingernails extremely long. During the Ming dynasty, royal fingernails were painted black and red.
The Egyptians also colored their nails, using red to show the highest social class. It is said that Cleopatra's nails were painted a deep red, whereas Queen Nefertiti went with a flashier ruby shade.
The women weren't the only ones who turned to manicures. In ancient Egypt and Rome, military commanders also painted their nails to match their lips before they went off the battle. Babylonian noblemen were the most likely to use the special solid gold manicure tools to keep their fingernails in shape.
In modern times, manicures are not only related to social status, but also a sign of fashion. Many famous stars attach importance to their nails. The most famous star in Asia, Ayumi Hamasaki, who is considered a fashion icon and trend-setter, always has her nails painted in various styles.
Development of the modern manicure
The French manicure, the origin of modern manicure appeared in 18th-century Paris. The French manicures are designed to resemble a natural nail and are characterized by natural pink base nails with white tips, were popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
In the late 20th century, artificial nails for women became widely popular all over the world. Using artificial nails became a must for women who couldn't grow long and healthy fingernails naturally.
Artificial nails, also known as fake nails, fashion nails, nail enhancements, or nail extensions, are coverings placed over fingernails as fashion accessories.
There are several popular techniques that can be used to create longer, better-looking nail enhancements: acrylics, UV gel, fiberglass (or silk wraps).
Nail designing is the latest crazy among girls at the moment. You can make your nails look absolutely fabulous and freaky with the use of nail designing techniques.
Your nails can be decorated with cute, trendy paintings. There are a variety of nail polishes that add a touch of life to your nails. These polishes may be matte finished or gloss finished.
A type of nail designing accessory called glitters is used to make your nails sparkle. Many tattoos are also used to decorate nails. Your nails can also be made attractive with the help of stones and jewels. The nails can also be designed using the skills of a professional.
The most popular nails types in Xiamen:
This is the most popular type of manicure. It involves the application of clear or nail-colored nail polish on the body of the nail and pure white nail polish at the tips of nails. The nails are shaped round, oval or square as per desire.
Acrylic nails, also known as artificial nails, fake nails, sculptured nails are the most used artificial nails. Acrylic nails should always be glued onto the natural nail plate. Acrylic nails are made of monomer (a liquid acrylic product) and a polymer (a powdered acrylic product). The artificial nails are the most preferred by the women as they are very durable and the strongest.
Gel nails are usually made of gel acrylic. Gel nails are appropriate for those women who want to achieve more natural look. The manicurist will apply the acrylic gel over your natural nail plate and will cure the gel under an ultraviolet light. Unfortunately the gel nails aren't as strong and durable as the acrylic nails. There are two types of gel nails - the first use light and the other does not. Both types of gel nails can be shaped and styles as you desire. One thing you should remember: gel nails cannot be removed easily - they must grow out and be filled down for removal.
One of the biggest advantages of gel nails is that they should be filed less often then the acrylic nails for example.
Wrap nails usually include pieces of silk, linen, fiberglass or paper that are cut to the desired shape and then are glued to the natural nails. Just like the gel nails, wrap nails also look very natural as they are thin and smooth. Most of the beauty salons use fiberglass in place of silk or linen as it is stronger and provides a lot of flexibility. Unfortunately all types of wraps are less durable than the others. Wrap nails aren’t appropriate for those women with an active life as they break easily.
Solar nails are similar to the acrylic nails but they use a different product – usually white or pink acrylic nails. Solar nails often look like a French manicure. Like the acrylic nails, the solar nails also should be refilled every three weeks.
