"Ji Li", the female giant panda who started to make home at Xiamen Haicang Safari Park on 1st Jan this year, will leave for Canada next year, reports Southeast Post.

According to an agreement signed by the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens (CAZG) and two Canadian zoos in Chongqing, China will loan two giant pandas to Canadian zoos for a 10-year research program.

"Ji Li" was confirmed to be chosen as the best partner of "Er Shun", a male panda from a zoo in Chongqing. The panda pair will stay in the Toronto and Calgary zoos for five years each after they arrive in Canada early next year, and will be the first pair of pandas to visit Canada since the 1980s.

According to an earlier agreement signed by the Haicang Safari Park and Chengdu Panda Base, "Ji Li" should stay in Xiamen for three years. The Chengdu Panda Base said they will send another panda to Xiamen to replace "Ji Li".
