Final of Kiteboard Tour Asia moved to Fujian Pingtan in May

KTA (Kiteboard Tour Asia) China 11/12 Tour Finals to be held on Pingtan Island on 16-20 May 2012.
 
KTA's final round of the 11/12 Asia Tour season will take us to Fujian's Pingtan Island, renowned for its wide beaches and strong winds. The event will see surfers from all nationalities to compete for freestyle and course race (RB and TT) championships of KTA Tour.
 
The event is sponsored by Pingtan County government and supported by the Fujian Provincial government.

About Pingtan Island
Being the fifth largest island in China, Pingtan lies off the Fujian coast, about 120 km from Fuzhou and 250km from Xiamen.

Pingtan Straits Bridge, which was completed in November 2010, connects the island to mainland. The island has 6 main tourist districts including two developed beach resorts.

Wind - Weather - Water
The winds during May in Pingtan still come from the northeast, with wind speeds between 20-30knts. This will give a cross onshore wind direction for the competition beach.

Local temperatures in May ranges from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, but you may bring outfit because of the chilly wind.

The water temperature is about 16-20 degrees Celsius in May.

Travel
Free shuttle buses will be arranged on May 15-16 to take surfers to Pingtan from Fuzhou airport. Its timetable will be published shortly or please mail the local organizer for further details. Transfer time from the airport is around 1.5 hours. Taxis to Pingtan are available directly from the airport and if you want to take a public bus then take the airport bus into the city of Fuzhou then take a bus to Pingtan Island.

Flights can also be taken to Xiamen which may be a cheaper destination for some countries to fly to. The transfer time to Pingtan from Xiaman is around 2.5 hours. There will be one free bus from Xiamen for surfers that will travel on the morning of the 16th May. This is not from the airport but from the 59Fly Kiteboarding Centre which is about 30 minutes taxi ride from the airport. Please contact the local organizer if you wish to use this free bus service. Also if you arrive in Xiamen before the 16th May then our local organizer will be happy to help you with accommodation.

Most nationalities will be required a visa to enter China. This will be needed in advance of your trip and cannot be obtained on entry to the country. Please either apply for your visa through a travel agent service or the embassy in your country.

If you require an invitation letter to the competition to obtain your visa please email our local organizer who will be able to arrange this for you, but do not leave until the last moment or it will not be possible to organize.

Event registration fee for a rider is set at US$60.00 per discipline
You must register in advance online
Fee for a guest is US$ 50.00 per person
Payment and registration for guest to be made at the event of the registration day

Event Schedule  
 
*Riders' meetings will be arranged in the evening and will be posted on the riders' information board. All riders must attend all the detailed daily competition programmes which will be given by the KTA Competition Director – All riders must attend the opening and awards nights.
