Venezuela's Genesis Rodriguez Gomez collapses during a lift attempt Sunday at the Pan Am Games in Oshawa, Ontario.
A Venezuelan weightlifter narrowly avoided injury after dramatically collapsing during a 233-pound clean and jerk at the Pan Am Games on Sunday.
Shocking video shows Genesis Rodriguez Gomez trying to hoist the 233-pound weight above her head at the competition in Oshawa, Ontario, near Toronto.
The 20-year-old momentarily holds the bar in the air. But she then buckles under the pressure and falls to the ground with the weight tumbling dangerously close behind.
Footage sees her lying down as concerned fans look on.
Incredibly, Gomez later managed to pick herself up and continue — and she went on to win a silver medal in the women’s 116-pound category after successfully lifting an even heavier 240-pound bar.
She was runner-up to Colombia’s Rusmeris Villar Barboza.
