Cultural industries account for 7.7% of Xiamen's GDP

After several years of accelerated development, cultural industries are poised to become a major driver of the economy in Xiamen, xm.focus.cn reports.

Official statistics show that the added value of the city's cultural industries reached RMB 15.905 billion in the first 3 quarters of this year, a 17.5 percent surge year-over-year, accounting for 7.7 percent of the city's total GDP.

According to reports, the revenue of cultural industries in Xiamen hit RMB 52.936 billion in the first 3 quarters, with assets totaling RMB 82.313 billion.

Xiamen is now among China’s most competitive cultural industry cities. During 2013, referred to as the “worst year in history for college graduates”, the cultural industry has created 205,500 jobs in Xiamen for graduates, helping to solve the thorny problem of unemployment in the city.
