Xiamen-ASEAN trade grows 16.6% to $12.06 billion in 2013

According to Xiamen’s Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the foreign trade between Xiamen and ASEAN grew 16.6% to 12.06 billion US dollars in 2013, overtaking the US as Xiamen’s No.1 trade partner, reports Strait Herald.

The foreign trade between Xiamen and the US and the EU were US $12.03 billion and US $11.85 billion in 2013, respectively, up, 10.3% and 19.2%, respectively, from 2012, making them Xiamen’s 2nd and 3rd largest trade partners last year.

Xiamen’s foreign trade with ASEAN, the US and EU accounted for about 42.7% of its total foreign trade last year, which stood at US $84.09 billion.

Thanks to the implementation of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, the foreign trade between Xiamen and ASEAN has grown rapidly in recent years. In 2013, Xiamen’s exports to ASEAN totaled US $7.54 billion, up 23.7% and imports from ASEAN totaled US $4.52 billion, up 6.4%.

Xiamen’s main exports to ASEAN included textiles, LCD panels and agricultural products, while imports were mainly computers, minerals and LCD panels.
