Xiamen Port ranks world's 17th in container throughput

The Port of Xiamen is owned and operated by the Xiamen Port Authority, a department of the Xiamen Municipal Government. It comprises eight areas, five in Xiamen, including Dongdu Port, Haicang Port, Songyu Port, Liuwudian Port, Passenger Port, and three in Zhangzhou, including Houshi Port, Shima Port and Zhaoyin Port.
  
The port of Xiamen managed stable expansion in 2013 and ranked 17th and 22nd, respectively, on the rankings of global ports’ container throughput and global ports’ cargo throughput, according to the 2013 Global Port Development Report by the Shanghai International Shipping Institute.

The 2013 Global Port Development Report, published by the Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), shows that among the top 20 global ports, Xiamen, for the first time, surpassed Los Angeles in container throughput. The annual container throughput of Xiamen port totaled 8.8 million TEU last year, up 11.2 percent from the previous year. Besides, the Xiamen Port cargo throughput reached 191 million tons last year, increasing 11.05 percent compared with the previous year.
