Xiamen Port among world's top 20 ports for container throughput

Xiamen Port’s annual container throughput reached 8.01 million TEU in 2013, up 11.2% over last year, surpassing the Port of Los Angeles (7.87 million TEU) and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (7.63 million TEU).
   
According to a report released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, the only national-level shipping exchange in China, Xiamen Port took 17th place among the world’s top 20 ports in terms of container throughput in 2013, up 2 spots over last year.

Xiamen Port’s annual container throughput reached 8.01 million TEU in 2013, up 11.2% over last year, surpassing the Port of Los Angeles (7.87 million TEU) and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (7.63 million TEU). Its growth rate ranked second among all the main ports nationwide.

Meanwhile, Xiamen Port’s cargo throughput reached 191 million tons last year, up by 10.8% year-on-year.

There are 7 mainland ports on the global container throughput list, of which Shanghai Port topped the global list, followed by Shenzhen Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Qingdao Port, Guangzhou Port, Tianjin Port and Dalian Port, which ranked 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 13th respectively.

Shenzhen’s Port surpassed Hong Kong’s for the first time this year.
