Xiamen's foreign trade ranks 5th nationwide in 2013

The 'China Customs’ magazine recently unveiled its list of China's top 100 cities for foreign trade in 2013. Xiamen ranked 5th overall and 1st among cities in Fujian province. Shenzhen, Suzhou and Shanghai snatched the top three places.

Data from ‘China Customs’ magazine showed that the total foreign trade value of Xiamen reached $84.09 billion in 2013, up 12.9% compared with the same period of the previous year. In 2013, the growth rate of Xiamen’s export trade volume was 5.3 percent higher than the whole country’s growth rate and 4.3 percent higher than Fujian’s growth rate, ranking first among the 5 special economic zones in China.

According to the Xiamen Commerce Bureau, the city launched 10 policies to promote the its trade advantages in 2013. A special fund of RMB 300 million was distributed to 775 foreign trade companies, and 5 new public service platforms were built with the export bases extending from 15 areas to 21 areas.

Besides, 13 teams were built up to develop the oversea markets last year, realizing 69 overseas investment projects worth a total of US$640 million and an export-led value of more than US$2 billion.

In 2013, a total of 4,385 foreign trade enterprises were set up in Xiamen, including 3,792 private companies that account for 86.5% of the new firms.
