
A massive recall of several Toyota models over problems with sticking accelerators in the United States, Europe and Aisa, are being extended to Xiamen. According to Toyota agency in Xiamen, hundreds of Toyota cars will be recalled by the end of this month.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co Ltd, the Sino-Japanese joint venture announced on Jan 28, said that they will recall 75,552 RAV4 sport-utility vehicles from Feb 28 due to a potential flaw in their accelerator pedals.
“The recall will also start on 28th this month in Xiamen.” said a staff member of Xiamen Zhongsheng Toyota. At present, there are three Toyota agencies in Xiamen. It is still unclear that how many cars will be recalled. An insider said the number could reach several hundred.
Toyota is recalling 5.35 million vehicles in the US, because of floor mats that could jam pedals. The models involved include 2004-2009 Prius hybrids, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350s, 2006-2010 Lexus IS250s and 2006-2010 Lexus IS350s. Toyota has said 2.1 million cars were recalled for both mat and accelerator-related problems.
