Confronted with hurdles in its planned 7.5G liquid crystal display (LCD) panel project in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is likely to strengthen its deployment in Mainland China by deepening its cooperation with Taiwan-based peer Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd.

The South Korea-based company expects to make a strategic investment in Chunghwa Picture for a further expansion in the flat panel market in the mainland, disclosed people familiar with the matter on February 4, one day after JK Kim, vice president for Samsung and director for the Samsung mobile telecom division, made a visit to the Taiwanese company.

To make a push into the fast-growing market, Samsung is possible to join forces with a flat panel unit launched by Chunghwa Picture in the mainland to set up a LCD panel plant in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, said a source. Samsung has agreed to place an order for 40% of the products made by the Chunghwa Picture 6G LCD panel plant.
