Xiamen University to build a new campus in Xiang'an this April

A new campus of Xiamen University, which is to be located in the outlying district of Xiang'an, is to hold its ground-breaking ceremony on 6 April 2010, the 89th anniversary of Xiamen University, according to Xiamen University BBS. 

The Xiang'an campus, located in the southeast of Xiang'
an District with a total land area of 3645 acres, is larger than its main campus on Siming Nan Road.

According to its plan in 2008, Xiamen University will run the school in its main campus and Xiang'an campus, both are within the city administrative divisions. The Zhangzhou campus will be used for its independent college, Tan Kah Kee College.
 
The Xiang'an campus will focus on the development of applied sciences, like medicine, life science and technology in the following four directions:

- Training base of undergraduates and graduates
- Incubation base of advanced technological innovation and results
- Southern base of China Confucius Institute headquarters
- Demonstration base of overseas education
