Xiamen has launched a major crackdown on “6 Major Bad Traffic Habits” in response to the Civil Traffic Action Plan launched by the Central Civilization Office and the Ministry of Public Security last Friday.

The objective of the Civil Traffic Action Plan aims at ensuring the safe travel of the public, preventing and reducing traffic accidents, and guaranteeing safe, orderly and smooth traffic.

The “6 Major Bad Traffic Habits” include “changing lanes without giving any signal”, “driving while talking on a cell phone”, “driving without fastening the seatbelt”, “motor vehicles not giving precedence to zebra crossing”, “crossing roads by leaping over separation facilities” and “sounding the horn within Xiamen Island”.

Traffic police stationed at 14 road crossings on Jinshang Road, Huli Avenue, Xianyue Road, Xiahe Road, Lundu, Qianpu, Hubin Bei Road and Hubin Nan Road, are to inspect the traffic conditions on the island of Xiamen.

People caught violating the rules will be heavily fined during the crackdown, the traffic police said.

Dont hold your breath while waiting. Its just lip service. A few days ago I saw a police car go by 'on patrol' the officer in the front passenger seat was asleep!

I can't wait... Especially for the ones about honking and ignoring pedestrains' right of way on zebra crossings.
