Da-Hsuan Feng
The first "Cross-Straits Southern Fujian Cultural Festival" on March 1st has successfully come to an end in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China. The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) delegation from Taiwan led by Senior Executive Vice-President (SEVP) Da-Hsuan Feng returned home with a rewarding experience.
SEVP Da-Hsuan Feng expressed, the experience was beneficial to the promotion of Southern Fujian culture. Southern Fujian culture is one of the priorities for humane research and development in National Cheng Kung University. Since the school has a very intimate relationship with Southern Fujian culture, NCKU is responsible for revealing its cultural aspects and developing its related research. As the most important base of operation for Lord Cheng-Kung Cheng (Koxinga), Tainan has abundant information worth exploring. The location advantage corresponds to the purpose of glorifying Southern Fujian culture and enhancing its cooperation and exchange. This is one of the main reasons NCKU was invited by the Quanzhou City Government.
Southern Fujian culture inherits the traditional Chinese culture and absorbs the diverse marine culture, forming a unique overseas Chinese culture. The first "Cross-Straits Southern Fujian Cultural Festival", which attracted 8,000 people, was organized by Quanzhou City Government, China Museum for Fujian-Taiwan Kinship, National Cheng Kung University, Chinese Fujian Culture Research Association, and Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League. The festival started from February 27th to March 1st. Topic covered the academic, artistic and literary aspects of Southern Fujian culture.
The NCKU delegation, including Senior Executive Vice-President Da-Hsuan Feng, his wife Yi-Wen Jiang, Vice-President of Academic Affairs Ming-Jer Tang, Vice-President of General Affairs Jing-Wen Chen, Dean of College of Liberal Arts Chang-Ming Chen, Chairman of the Department of Chinese Literature Yi-Yuan Chen, Prof. S. CH. Wang, Director of Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences Tai Hua, Director of Center for General Education Wei-Yung Wang, Library Director Wen-Jen Hsieh, etc, has attended in the Southern Fujian Cultural Festival opening ceremony and visited the China Museum for Fujian-Taiwan Kinship, Museum of Overseas Communications History as well as Quanzhou Normal University, Huaqiao University and Xiamen University.
SEVP Da-Hsuan Feng has discussed general education, Kinmen-Xiamen living area, Cheng-Kung Cheng historical issues and marine problems with President Chong-Shi Zhu of Xiamen University. Both universities agreed to organize two to three joint conferences in the coming year and expected to cooperate on the field of humanities as well as medicine and technology in near future. Furthermore, the NCKU Department of Materials Science and Engineering will form a research team with National Kinmen Institute of Technology, and the team will promote science and technology research and development with Xiamen University.
