Fujian's port throughput sees 14.7% rise in Jan-Feb

Fujian's seaports registered a combined total throughput of 46.6 million tons in the first two months of this year, rising 14.7 percent year-on-year.
 
Fuzhou Port handled about 12 million tons of cargo, up 4.5 percent, while Meizhou Bay Port handled around 14 million tons, up 2.7 percent, and Xiamen Port handled about 20 million tons, up 33.8 percent.
 
In addtion, expansion of the main navigation channel of Xiamen Port kicked off on March 1. Approximately 15 million cubic meters of sediments are to be dredged and 2.7 million cubic meters of reef will be removed.
 
Nine new light buoys will be installed and the 17 existing ones will be re-aligned.
 
The project is slated to cost about 456 million yuan and is scheduled for completion in 2011.
