7 pairs of Fuzhou-Xiamen bullet trains are CRH2E type with 13 sleeping cars
All sleeping berths on bullet trains of Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway (HSR) will be replaced by standard seats by the end of the year, according to Xiamen Railway Station.
Currently, 7 pairs of the Xiamen-Fuzhou bullet trains are CRH2E bullet trains with 13 sleeping cars. They were previously used on the Fuzhou-Beijing bullet train service, but it had been cancelled in April due to poor demand as high ticket prices made the train service unpopular with passengers.
Seats on these bullet trains were transformed from sleeping berths. However, many passengers feel uncomfortable with these seats as each berth will be shared by three passengers while the upper berths are not allowed to be used.
The CRH2E is a modified 16-cars version of the CRH2 with sleeping cars. It can carry 630 passengers. The No. 1 and 16 are second-class cars, the No. 8 is a dining car and the others are sleeping cars.
At present, there are five Fuzhou-Xiamen bullet trains which only provide standard seats, including first-class and second-class seats. The train numbers of them are D6230, D6232, D6234, D6236 and D6238, with duration of 1 hour and 50 minutes.
