Chanthu, the third tropical storm of this year, is expected to bring down high temperatures in Xiamen, according to the Xiamen weather bureau.
At about 8 o’clock Tuesday evening, the tropical depression was strengthened into a tropical storm on the South China Sea, and was named Chanthu.
Moving northwestward at a speed of 15 km per hour, tropical storm Chanthu was expected to make landfall in south China's Guangdong and Hainan provinces on Thursday, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Wednesday.
The tropical storm will bring gales and heavy rains to southern and eastern coastal areas of China, including Hainan and Xiamen’s neighbour Guangdong, and will affect many coastal cities in south China, including Xiamen.
Influenced by Chanthu, Xiamen will become more cloudy and windy the following few days. There may also be showers or thunderstorms, forecasted by theXiamen weather bureau.
