Thousands of fish 'jump to death' for 30 minutes in Quanzhou

Fishermen in Quanzhou were startled when "thousands" of small fish jumped into their boat
 for about 30 minutes beginning at 6 pm on July 18.
  
Many fish died after jumping onto the boat
 
 
While fishermen usually trawl hard for their catch, a group off the port city of Quanzhou, Fujian Province was startled when "thousands" of small fish jumped into their boat for about 30 minutes beginning at 6 pm Sunday.
 
The fish species, which was not identified in media reports, may have been reacting to heavily polluted seawater with little oxygen in it, reports said.
 
The fishermen said they were panicked, thinking that the fish were signs of a pending earthquake or tsunami, which wasn't the case. After the "fish rain" fishermen said thousands of dead fish littered the boat and floated in the waters around it.
