A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Xiamen University's new campus in Xiang'an district on April 6, which coincided with the university's 90th anniversary.
The new campus is located in Xindian, Xiang'an, and is expected to cover an area of 243 hectares, making it larger than the university's main campus on South Siming Road. The first phase of the project will be completed by 2013. By then, the new campus will be able to accommodate 30,000 students. Some departments will be relocated there since September next year.
