Recently, rumors are circulating on the internet that KFC stores in China have been providing “handsome delivery boy service” to customers upon request.
The buzz about the so-called "handsome delivery boy service" first stemmed from a microblog posted by "bosnia" on Sina Weibo, the popular microblogging platform in China, on 1st February, in which she recounted her recent experience with a good-looking KFC deliveryman.
"Bosnia" said she recently called KFC for delivery service and requested an attractive delivery boy. When her order arrived at her house, she discovered KFC had indeed sent a cute male employee to deliver her chicken. Ten minutes later, bosnia got a phone call from KFC, asking her if she was satisfied with the food and with the courier.
On Friday, KFC used Sina Weibo to deny that customers can designate handsome boys to deliver food for them, stating that KFC only runs a "normal delivery service," and calling on customers to be kind to the hard-working delivery staff.
Despite KFC’s denial that it offers such service, many netizens have also begun to ask for attractive delivery boys when ordering KFC.
A Xiamen Economic Daily reporter also ‘ordered’ a ‘small-eyed handsome boy’ to do the KFC home delivery for her on 6th February. “Indeed, a medium-height handsome delivery boy came moments later,” said the reporter.
A staff member of a KFC Xiamen branch told the reporter that they would take customers’ ‘special requirements’ into consideration if they are not busy.
Some have speculated that the act is actually a disguised marketing campaign by KFC.
Luo Min, who works in an Internet company, said she doesn't really like fast food, but is amused by the "cute service" and would choose KFC when ordering food for delivery, irrespective of the deliveryman's appearance.
