You may not believe it, but some people in Xiamen are reported to make money by killing stray cats and selling them to barbecue shops.

Those night cat killers usually haunt in the streets late in the nights or early in the morning, searching for stray cats and killing them brutally. They then process them and sell the cat meat to barbecue shops, which use them to make kebabs in the day, according to Thursdays Xiamen Daily.

Lao Chen, one of those cat killers, told a reporter that they usually electric shock the stray cats which usually stay under a car to warm their body at night. They pierce their bodies with an iron bar, and throw them into a cage. Chen said they can catch dozens of cats in one night.

Generally, only a few dare to eat cat meat as its considered dirty and unhealthy in Chinese culture, making public sale of cat meat almost impossible. But Chen said they can be processed into mutton by removing the cat smell and cooking them in mutton soup.

They usually sell the processed cat meat to barbecue shops or sauced meat shops, Chen said, and you can hardly tell them apart from real mutton

My Chinese friends have been telling me this for years now - not to trust the Xiamen street bbq, as it may well be cat meat, cleverly processed to taste like chicken or mutton. Gag.

No food police,No health police,No traffic police-- no control equals third world!! They would much rather catch someone selling fireworks or occasionally bust someone on a motorcycle. It's a JOKE!! In fact, let's all move along, nothing to see here folks.
Buy your meat at Metro..and don't drink the tap water..

WTF?!!! If these people show no mercy to dogs, how much more to cats?

Btw, no more bbq for me considering the fact that we will never know what kind of meat we're eating!

I find this very believable. Disturbingly, after all the food scandals, I don't even feel shocked or surprised.
