Xiamen Uni. receives nearly RMB100m donations for 91st Anniversary

Xiamen University has received a total of nearly 100 million yuan in donations and 84 sets of aircraft parts by 6th April, 2012 for its 91st Anniversary, reported Xiamen Daily Saturday.
The university, founded in 1921 by a well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader-Tan Kah Kee, celebrated its 91st Anniversary on 6th April. Xiamen University (hereafter referred to as XMU), which has maintained its tradition of holding an anniversary celebration each year since it was established, received 93 million yuan in donations and 84 sets of "expensive" aircraft parts and equipments for this years 91st anniversary.
XMU held a grand celebration last year for its 90th Anniversary and around 700 million yuan donations were received.The teachers, students and alumni of XMU have a special love for their own school. There are still many alumni from home and abroad that came back to the school to participate in this years anniversary celebration after last years, said relevant XMU official.
In this year's donation, the largest one - 40 million yuan comes from Fujian Shengnuo Group. The donation will be used for the construction of a laboratory building and ancillary facilities of the XMU Shengnuo Non-Ferrous Metal Research Institute.
XMUs alumni donated a total of 32 million yuan this year, accounting for 34.4% of the total donations. Jimei School Committee, also established by Tan Kah Kee, donated 15 million yuan. Family members of She Mingpei, a XMU alumnus who contributed to building the Mingpei Stadium 26 years ago, donated 6 million yuan to build a Mingpei swimming pool in XMUs Xiangan Campus this year. The auto parts were donated by the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute of Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
