Four ships caught fire on the waters 200 meters away from the Sanqiutian Wharf of Gulangyu Island in Xiamen
 
At 8:30 a.m. on the 3rd October four ships caught fire on the waters 200 meters away from the Sanqiutian Wharf of Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, as reported the Strait Metropolis Daily. The fire was extinguished 2 hours later and no casualties were reported.

According to a tourist on Gulangyu Island, fire broke out on the chips and covered the island with thick smoke following an explosion which occurred around 9 am.

After receiving the fire alert, Xiamen Maritime Bureau dispatched a rescue team immediately and issued a warning, suspending all boat activities surrounding -Gulangyu Island for 2 hours.

By 10:30 a.m. the fire had been extinguished but two of the ships had been badly damaged by the fire. Of the four damaged ships, two were wooden while two were LNG tank-loaded iron sheet ships. They were the “Minquanyu 06807”, “Minquanyu06811”, "Minxiajiao 0007” and “Minxiahuo 0015” respectively.

Two of the cargo ships, “Minxiajiao 0007” and “Minxiahuo 0015”, were used to transport LNG to Gulangyu Island. There were more than 20 empty LNG tanks on the ship when the fire broke out, said the captain of the “Minxiahuo 0015”,

According to the fire department, the fire is thought to have spread from the ship “Minxiajiao 0007”, but the cause is still under investigation.
