Trains are expected to run on Xiashen Railway at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. The railway will connect with the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway when it is completed in 2015. By then, it will take only seven hours to travel from Fuzhou to Hong Kong.
Xiashen Railway is 501.2 kilometers long, and it covers 145.7 km in Fujian province. Construction began in August 2008. The Xiamen-Zhangzhou portion (33.3 km) and Longzhang Railway have been operating since June 29, 2012.
According to media in Guangdong province, electricity ran through the Fujian and Guangdong part of Xiashen Railway starting at 9:58 am on October 4, signaling that overall tests of the railway have begun.
