Police in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Friday evening captured a man suspected of murdering seven members of his family, including his pregnant wife and two young nieces.

Police detained a man who killed his family of seven, including his pregnant wife, officers in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region said last night.

Ma Yongdong, 24, was caught at a building material market in Ningxia’s Wuzhong City about 8:30pm yesterday.

He admitted to killing his six-month pregnant wife, two nieces aged four years old and one year old, parents-in-law and grandparents-in-law in Pengyang County’s Honghe Township on October 14.

Local police said Ma and his wife have been married for several years. In the afternoon of October 14, Ma’s wife returned to her parents’ house after having a big fight with her husband.

When he arrived at his parents-in-law’s house, Ma quarreled with them before using a knife to kill the whole family.

All the victims had their throats slashed, Legal Evening News reported.

Police also denied an online rumor that Ma had hired a killer.
