The Xiamen-Shenzhen High Speed Railway is scheduled to open on 28th December, which is expected to usher in a new round of peak passenger flow to Xiamen.
As the Xiamen Railway Station will be closed for construction work from March 2014 to January 2015, most of the transportation functions of the railway station will be relocated to the Xiamen North Railway Station during this period.
Thus, the Xiamen North Railway Station will see explosive growth in passenger traffic next year. It will handle more than 100,000 passengers, more than triple its current amount, and operate more than 100 pairs of trains every day.
The municipal Transportation Management Department has announced several measures to cope with the possible difficulties during the transition period, including the planned purchase of 200 buses (58 BRT buses and 142 ordinary ones).
According to reports, the city will increase the frequency of bus services in the near future. Soon, a total of 1,561 bus will be put into service every day. In addition to this, BRT buses and regular buses to the railway station will also extend night service based on the train schedule, to help meet the needs of passengers.
