While the Xiamen Railway Station is closed for construction work from March 2014 to January 2015, most of the transportation functions of the railway station will be relocated to the Xiamen North Railway Station and Gaoqi Railway Station during this period. On the occasion, Xiamen North Railway Station is expected to handle over 100,000 passengers a day.

The city has now announced several measures to cope with the possible difficulties during the transition period. According to reports, a new BRT lane will be opened at the end of this month and a new terminal is also expected to be put into service at the beginning of March.

The new 40,000 sqm bus terminal near the railway station has been in operation for a period of time. At the same time, the old bus station there has now been transformed into a BRT bus terminal which will be put into service at the beginning of next month.

In addition, new 18-meter-long BRT buses will run on the new bus lane. According to reports, the transport capacity of these new BRT buses will be 1.7 times the normal buses' capacity.
