Xiamen tops Chinese teens' favorite oceanic tourism destinations

Chinese students cast their votes for the 8th “Chinese teenagers’ favorite oceanic tourism destinations”, and Xiamen received the most votes, with Beihai, Sanya, Shanghai, Sansha, Hangzhou, Zhoushan, Yantai, Ningbo, Dandong rounding up the top 10.

The activity was co-organized by China Youth Daily and the China Tourism Association, and it also involved the selection of the country’s top 10 scenic spots, with Xisha Islands receiving the most votes, followed by Yalong Bay National Resort of Sanya, Fuzhou Pingtan Island Tourist Scenic Spot, Qinhuangdao Beidaihe Scenic Spot, Beihai Yintan Holiday Resort, Dandong Yalu River Scenic Spot, Sanya Tianya Haijiao Scenic Spot, Wenzhou Yandan Mountain Scenic Attraction, Weihai Liugong Island Scenic Spot and Qinghuangdao Changli gold coast.

Zhang Lingyun, vice president of the Tourism College of Beijing Union University, said that the 21st century is a “sea era,” and “marine consciousness” should start at childhood.

Zhang also said that oceans offer the opportunity for many leisure activities, such as diving, touring islands and sailing.

China has a long coastline which offers a huge potential to develop resorts - though it already has several, which are mainly located in Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi.
