First phase of Xiamen Xiang'an Int'l Airport to open in 2020

The planning area of the Xiang’an International Airport is 17.5 square kilometers, and it will have two 3,600-meter-long runways in its first phase, which will enable it to accommodate 177 passenger planes, including the Airbus A380 and 28 cargo aircrafts, at the same time. Two more runways will be added in its second phase.
   
Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen’s second airport on Dadeng Island in Xiang’an District is expected to begin trial operations around the year 2020. And construction will begin soon on an expressway running between the Xiang'an International Airport and Shenhai expressway.

The expressway will run between the Xiang'an International Airport and Shenhai expressway with a length of 14.2 km. The length of the tunnel will be 2,060 meters, starting from the Xiawu saltworks all the way through to the open ground of Dadeng Island.

According to earlier reports, the planning area of the Xiang’an International Airport is 17.5 square kilometers, and it will have two 3,600-meter-long runways in its first phase, which will enable it to accommodate 177 passenger planes, including the Airbus A380 and 28 cargo aircrafts, at the same time. Two more runways will be added in its second phase.

The first phase of the Xiang'an International Airport construction is designed to meet the requirements of a 45 million passenger throughput by 2025, and its annual passenger throughput is expected to reach 75 million in 2040 after completion of the second phase.

A 3.1-square-meter land reclamation project has been completed and is now undergoing a soft soil foundation treatment. The whole ground engineering and construction is expected to be finished by 2017.
