Five mining accidents occurred in Fujian province from January to September this year, resulting in 6 deaths, according to the Fujian Bureau of Supervision and Management on Safety Production on Oct 30.

The number of accidents and deaths are one more and two less compared with the same period last year.

34 people and four companies were held accountable for the accidents, with fines of up to 773,6000 yuan ($128,000).

Fujian enhanced its crackdown on illegal or substandard mining production this year. In the first three quarters, the Bureau inspected 44 mining sites and wiped out 384 accident risks.

Five illegal mines have been shut down across the province, and the Bureau planned to close another 10 by the end of this year.
