Two safety check machines were put into trial operation at Qianpu BRT Station and Xiamen North Railway Station on October 5th. But whether all BRT stations will be equipped with the safety check machines instead of "inefficient and annoying" manual safety checks is still under discussion.

Passengers carrying bags or luggage have to undergo safety checks via a Safety Check Machine Channel. Other passengers can enter the station via a self-help channel without checks.

It’s the Xiamen BRT Group’s latest move to improve safety and efficiency standards at BRT stations. As one of the main public transportation options in Xiamen, the bus rapid transit (BRT) received complaints about its manual safety checks. The most complained-of problems include inefficiency, indifference to privacy, impolite enforcement, and security guards judging passengers by their looks.

The Xiamen BRT Line 5 was officially put into service on November 1st. Currently the city has five BRT lines as follows:

BRT Line 1 A (21 stops):
No.1 Port (第一码头) to Zhongkeyuan (中科院)
full-journey fare: 3.5 yuan

BRT Line 1 B (22 stops):

full-journey fare: 3.5 yuan

BRT Line 2 (32 stops):

full-journey fare: 4.5 yuan

BRT Line 3 (13 stops):

full-journey fare: 2 yuan

BRT Line 5 (23 stops):
