Opened in 1927, Zhongshan Park is the oldest park in Xiamen. The park covers about 160,000 square meters and is one of the most popular parks in downtown Xiamen, featuring a children’s playground and a zoo.
Several days ago, an article titled “Farewell to the Children’s Playground in Zhongshan Park” took WeChat Moments by storm among Xiamen WeChat users. Many residents expressed nostalgia on social network after rumor spread that the children’s playground would be closed. The temporary closure of the children’s playground and the zoo is part of the park facelift, which will last till May this year.
Xiamen is undergoing a massive facelift project across the city after typhoon Meranti and in preparation for the upcoming 9th BRICS summit in September this year. Residents are advised to take public transport to avoid traffic jams caused by the facelift project.
