Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport took 11th place in terms of overall passenger throughput among 218 airports nationwide in 2016. Annual passenger throughput at Xiamen airport was 22.74 million, a year-on-year increase of 4.23 percent, according to passenger throughput rankings released by the National Civic Aviation Authority.
International flights brought 2.99 million of Xiamen's total passengers for the year, marking an increase of 10.19 percent year on year.
In 2016, a total of 184,000 flights departed from or landed at Xiamen airport, up by 1.91 percent year-on-year, and giving the Xiamen airport a nationwide ranking of 13th. Cargo throughput at the airport reached 328,000 tons in 2016, up by 5.73 percent year-on-year, and garnering 12th place nationwide.
As of 2016, a total of 212 regularly scheduled flights serviced Xiamen airport, including 38 international flights covering main countries in Europe, North America and Oceania.
Six new international routes were launched last year, and more frequent service of Xiamen-Singapore routes and Xiamen-Manila routes was added. In 2017, more new routes will be launched, including Xiamen-Calibo flights in May and Xiamen-Los Angeles flights in June.
