Tropical Storm Talim is forecast to become the western Pacific's next typhoon and will likely threaten Taiwan and China later this week.

Atmospheric conditions favor that Talim will gain strength in the days ahead, and it has the potential to rapidly intensify into a strong typhoon while closing in on Taiwan.

Talim could be equivalent in strength to a major hurricane (Category 3 or stronger) when it impacts Taiwan Wednesday-Thursday (September 13th to 14th), local time.

Destructive winds, pounding surf and flooding rainfall are all potential threats in Taiwan. The severity of those impacts will be dependent on the exact track of Talim in relation to Taiwan along with its strength at that time.
