According to a latest proposal released by the Zhangzhou government, the toll fee for the Xiamen-Zhangzhou Cross-sea Bridge is expected to be waived. The proposal is still pending approval from upper departments.

The Xiamen-Zhangzhou Cross-sea Bridge officially opened to traffic in 2013. The toll for each passenger car is currently RMB 25 for a single trip. The bridge was a joint project built with investment by the Fujian government, the Xiamen government, the Zhangzhou government, and the management committee of the Zhangzhou Development Zone.

In 2016, traffic flow on the bridge reached 4.04 million, up by 7 percent year on year. Starting from May 4th this year, the bridge has come under new management rules aimed at reducing its toll as follows:

For vehicles that make 10 to 20 trips across the bridge monthly, the toll fee will be reduced by 20 percent.
For vehicles that make more than 20 trips on the bridge monthly, the toll fee will be reduced by 40 percent.

With a designed speed of 100 km/h, the double-direction 6-lane cross-sea bridge shortened travel time from Xiamen’s Haicang District to Zhangzhou’s harbor district to half an hour, one-quarter of the previous two-hour drive.

The main toll gate, which is shaped like a Minnan-style traditional house, is located on Haimen Islet. The highway features both manual toll collection and an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system.
