Japan was the main purveyor of Xiamen's industrial robot imports. In the first half of 2018, Japan exported 1,647 industrial robots to Xiamen. That number occupied 96.9 percent of the total industrial robots imported over the past six months.

Meanwhile, Xiamen imported 34 industrial robots from Taiwan and 15 from the European Union.

This year's Xiamen Industrial Exhibition (XMIE) was held in April. The event focused on the "made in China 2025" national development strategy and "intelligent manufacturing." One of the event’s highlights was making connections between big data companies and industries promoting intelligent manufacturing.
