Tremor felt in Xiamen as 5.6 quake hits Taiwan Strait this morning

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake jolted waters near the Taiwan Strait at 07:57 a.m. (Beijing local time) this morning, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
 
Tremors were felt in Xiamen, Fuzhou, Quanzhou and other regions in Fujian Province.
 
The epicenter was 3.37 degrees north latitude and 118.61 degrees east longitude.
 
Reports of damage and casualties are not immediately available.
 
Earthquakes frequently hit Taiwan but most are minor and cause little or no damage. 
 
However, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake in central Taiwan killed more than 2,300 people in 1999.
