Miranda Kerr
All eyes were on Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr as she took to the runway at the David Jones spring-summer fashion launch in Sydney yesterday.
Watched by her mother but with no sign of boyfriend Orlando Bloom in the front row, Kerr lit up the parade with her healthy tan, sun-kissed curls and trademark dimpled smile.
Summer is traditionally a time to pack away the black clothes of colder months and get into colour, but this season designers didn¡¯t just pepper their collections with hints of pastel pink or subtle peach.
Instead, it was a veritable riot of electric, pick-me-up hues. Bright fuschia, rich turquoise and electric violet popped up everywhere from the exquisitely feminine silk jacquard dresses of Akira Isogawa to Trelise Cooper¡¯s bright silk taffeta coats and Simona¡¯s frilled purple, fuschia and green party frocks.
While Kerr donned a subtle peach skirt and pale grey jacket by Willow to talk to media after the parade, she said she would wear lots of bright colours this summer.
¡°I find bright colour inspiring,¡± she said. ¡°I do wear a lot of black but it¡¯s nice to add a splash of colour to an outfit. It can be really energising in a way.¡±
Harem pants, neutral colours, sailor stripes, floor-skimming dresses and animal prints are also set to be big trends this summer. Kerr has bought a leopard-spot maxidress by Lisa Ho.
Kerr opened the show in an Egyptian-print maxidress by hot new label Thurley, launched by Melbourne designer Helen O¡¯Connor in 2006.
The second big star was menswear label Calibre, which turns 20 this year. Calibre founder Gary Zekevic shared front-row honours with O¡¯Connor, Collette Dinnigan and brand ambassador Megan Gale, who wowed onlookers with a revealing, skin-tight black dress.
In a memorable finale, Kerr, wearing a show-stopping red evening gown by Alex Perry, joined a bevy of handsome male models in Calibre evening suits.
Kerr will be in Perth on August 15.
