 Surveillance camera is a good weapon to fight against crimes

A surveillance camera system, which is used to fight against crimes in Xiamen, has now covered all residential quarters on the island, according to Mr. Chen Bingfa, Deputy Secretary of the Xiamen municipal party committee at a conference last Friday.

This year, the public security departments have cracked a total of 10,663 criminal cases, an increase of 6.07% over that of last year, said Mr. Chen.

The number of homicide cases that were placed on file was 64, with 59 being cleared. The clear-up rate reached 98.2%, ranking No.1 in Fujian Province.

At the same time, a municipal monitoring center, 5 district-level monitoring centers and 96 community supervision & control offices have been established on the island. 

A total of 19,200 monitoring points are set up in the city’s main roads, key positions, 290 communities and 1246 residential quarters. The coverage rate of the community surveillance system has reached 100% on the island.

In addition, the public security departments has detected, blocked and deleted more than 30,000 pieces of harmful information that spread through the internet and mobile phones.

A total of 315 illegal Internet cafes were ordered to close down and nearly 100 online fraud cases were cleared this year, according to Mr. Chen.
